RECOM Fire Solutions was appointed to deliver fire safety upgrades to the main school building at SS John Fisher & Thomas More Primary School in Wythenshawe, Manchester. The works formed part of the Academy Trust’s commitment to ensuring safe, efficient, and effective learning environments across its schools.

SS John Fisher & Thomas More Primary School is part of the Corpus Christi Catholic Academy Trust, an organisation dedicated to providing exceptional Catholic education. This project was designed to strengthen the safety of the school estate while meeting the long-term needs of its community.
Our scope of works included the replacement of existing fire doors and screens, demolition and reconstruction of partition walls to achieve FR30, and a series of remedial tasks delivered to consistently high standards of safety and workmanship.
What we did differently
Delivering fire safety works in live educational environments requires meticulous planning and a flexible approach. To avoid disruption, we scheduled works during the summer holiday period, ensuring classrooms and facilities were ready for use at the start of term.
We liaised directly with the school’s caretaker to arrange access, confirm on-site requirements, and address practical considerations. Regular progress updates kept stakeholders fully informed, and any issues encountered were resolved collaboratively.
One unexpected challenge came when the existing fire screens were set 20mm deeper than expected, causing additional damage to apertures during removal. Our team adapted quickly, resolving the issue with minimal impact on the programme or school environment.
