In addition to our role as Project Manager and Main Contractor, RECOM Fire Solutions was appointed to design and deliver a fire safety strategy for the Trust. The work focused on building a clear, risk-based approach that protected patients, supported staff, and met new compliance requirements.
Providing Safe Healthcare Environments
The Northern Care Alliance NHS Foundation Trust is one of the largest healthcare providers in the UK, operating across Salford, Oldham, Rochdale, and Bury. With estates that span multiple sites and decades of use, fire safety upgrades had become both urgent and essential. In response to new regulations and evolving legislation, the Trust partnered with RECOM Fire Solutions to develop a forward-looking fire safety strategy.
What we did differently
Rather than applying a one-size-fits-all solution, we worked with the Trust to design a clinician-led fire strategy that put patient and staff safety at the centre of decision-making. Every room with compartmentation was identified, assessed, and assigned a priority rating, allowing the Trust to focus resources where the risks were greatest.
This structured approach ensured compliance wasn’t just achieved, but achieved efficiently. By combining technical expertise with operational understanding, the strategy created a clear framework for both immediate remedial works and long-term improvements across the estate.
Our Outcomes
- A defined scope for the 2025–2026 financial year is now in place.
- A comprehensive risk profile matrix was created to guide prioritisation.
- The first project was successfully delivered across three live healthcare sites.
- Further phases are progressing on schedule, with the strategy shaping future projects.
