RECOM Fire Solutions was appointed by Laurus Trust to provide Project Management services for fire compartmentation and fire door remedial works. The programme began at Priestnall School and has since expanded across nine additional sites in Stockport, Manchester, Tameside, and Cheshire East.
With restricted access to schools, our team coordinated works to minimise disruption, carried out detailed measured building surveys, and partnered with specialist Fire Engineers to develop retrospective fire strategies. This approach addressed gaps in historical fire safety data and created a roadmap for targeted, risk-based remedial programmes that maximised safety improvements within available funding.
What we did differently
Conventional approaches were not suitable for this project. Key challenges included minimal site information, limited architectural documentation, unclear fire strategies, and restricted access during school operations. We started with a thorough information gap analysis, followed by detailed measured building surveys to establish a reliable architectural baseline. A dedicated Fire Engineer then developed a retrospective fire strategy using this new data.
By prioritising works based on risk and funding, we helped Laurus Trust make significant safety improvements efficiently. The result was a multi-year, phased programme of works that balanced technical rigour, practical constraints, and long-term investment planning — all delivered with transparency, collaboration, and minimal disruption to staff and pupils.
